What we’re missing about age and the presidency

As the 2020 presidential election has narrowed to three men in their 70s, each surely experiencing the changes to body and mind that age brings to us all if we're lucky enough to live that long, one thing has become clear: this will be the most "ableist" presidential election in at least modern US history. Ableism is stigma or discrimination based on perceptions about disability, whether accurate or not. It's as pernicious and pervasive and widespread as any other prejudicial ideology like sexism and racism (and in fact often these ideologies intersect). Today, we have three candidates whose behaviors, bodies or known health histories make ableist attacks more likely.
